Heating elements in the sides, not just the bottom.Got nice and hot.Inserts seem a little unstable, but haven't used them yet.Maybe they are better when they have some weight in them. Don't care much for the "serve through" lid, but can see where it could be useful. It's not Mom's 1950's Westinghouse, but I'm happy.

Product Description:
With its large 18-quart capacity, this roaster oven offers an energy-efficient alternative to the full-size oven. Or, use it simply for extra cooking space during the busy holiday season. Just like a traditional oven, the versatile appliance works great for roasting a whole turkey, baking a casserole, or cooking up a batch of soup or stew--it can even be used to steam, slow-cook, or keep foods warm at a buffet table. The roaster oven provides a simple control knob with adjustable heat up to 450 degrees F. In addition, its buffet-friendly stainless-steel lid helps keep in heat and moisture, then pivots out of the way for easy access to food when basting or serving. It also comes equipped with a removable enamel-on-steel insert pan, a lift-out wire rack for low-fat roasting, and cool-touch side handles for safe transport. Three enamel-coated interlocking serving pans are included, each with a 2-quart capacity and dishwasher-safe for quick cleanup. Not sure where to start? Hamilton Beach throws in a user manual with recipes for meatballs, chili, roasted turkey, cheesecake, and much more. The 1450-watt UL-listed roaster oven measures approximately 15-3/4 by 23-1/2 by 11 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.
