(More customer reviews)I agree with Dr Robin: this is a piece of junk.The gears do not mesh properly and the design of the cooker is so bad that a dead frog could pop corn better.The gears skipped almost always, and when I held the cooker so they didn't skip the machine still would not pop 4 ounces of corn.The corn gets stuck, impacted, and burnt and afterward had to be pried out of the cooker with a lot of effort.

Rather than try returning it, I took it on as a fix-up project.I moved the main motor over one third of an inch and that fixed the gear problems, which tells me the problem should not have existed in the first place had any thought gone into it.

Then I replaced the flip lids on the cooker with lighter weight material that would let the popped corn out easier.After much trial and error, I finally got the popper so it worked with two ounces of corn.Much more and it still failed miserably.

Even in the best cases, the popped corn in the cooker pushed out half of the un-popped kernels. A bad design all around and obviously never tested.I recommend avoiding this and any related product.Personally, I'm also putting Discount Tommy on my "avoid-at-all-cost" list for endorsing and selling this.

(More customer reviews)I have bought large model popcorn machines before, so I know what to look for. The Princeton Popper is a VERY high quality machine. There is nothing cheap looking about it. It is very heavy and has a beautiful finish. I couldn't believe the price either. I've paid nearly twice as much for a machine that wasn't nearly as nice. And if you haven't checked out Discount Tommy's website you definitely need to. His voice recording gives instruction as to what to look for in a good popcorn machine. I knew from my prior experience with popcorn machines that he was giving correct information and not just blowing smoke. This is a very impressive operation, and I am not easily impressed. Definitely a great machine, and a great company to do business with.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this machine to use in a high school concession booth.We use it about 8-10 evenings per year, popping corn continually for 2 hours each evening.I researched popcorn machines for a long time before I chose this model.No other machine in this price range was recommended for this kind of use.We have had the machine for 2 years and it has performed beautifully during that time.It is very easy to use.When we use the Great Northern corn in pre-measured packages (oil, corn and salt) ANYONE can learn to use the popper in just a few minutes and the results are perfect every time.In the concession stand I use the 8-ounce packages of corn.Most of the other machines I researched would not hold that much corn, so I can make lots more popcorn in each batch with this equipment.The popper is sturdy, easy to clean and easy to maintain.Only problem is that I have to bring the machine home after every event because my family is hooked on the popcorn and will not eat any other kind.When we use it at home I use the smaller (6 ounce) pre-measured corn packages.

(More customer reviews)This is the fourth stir crazy corn popper I have owned in about 30 years.They last a very long time.It pops more of the corn because it stirs as it pops.You can use a lot of oil or a very small amount, whichever you like.You can pop a little or a lot.If the stirring mechanisum gets stuck, it reverses and turns the other way. It just works great.The only con I can see is that the base is not immersable, but it is very easy to clean.When the corn has popped you flip it over and the top becomes the bowl.

I had done a lot of searching to try & find something that would fit in to our budget but was still of a commercial grade. What a GREAT find this was! The machine is great, pops the corn quickly, cleans up very easily & the drawer in the bottom for the unpopped kernels is wonderful! I also ordered the popcorn portion packs from Discount Tommys (several times now) as I didn't want to mess with measuring oil, popcorn etc. I was a little skeptical at how it would taste but I can honestly tell you popcorn became our biggest seller this fall at our concession stand. Customer Service is great! They shipped everything quickly & the packing was superb! I wold definitely recommend this popcorn machine for home use & concessions/church events etc!

I love popcorn and I didn't think it could get any better than popping it from my old cast iron skillet. Well, due to a health problem I can't use an iron skillet anymore. So I looked at about ten other brands of poppers and those that were comparable to this popper were like $100-$200 dollars more. So that did it for me, plus this one has a warming pan and heat lamp that make the popcorn crispy and tender some features that some of the others didn't have.

We had all the family for Christmas and the popper was in continual use they all just loved it--so what can I say, this is a great deal and the qualtiy is top grade: stainless steel popper, the power plug is magnetic so you don't have to pull hard to get the cord off. The popper-pot comes our easily for cleaning, don't emmerse the pot in water though, the instructions tell you how to clean it.

Well, that about covers it, oh, except one thing, it's 7 degrees outside right now and the days are dark and gloomy with storm, popcorn sure brings a smile to people's faces when they here it and smell its aroma; we throw on a movie and settle in while the wind and snow rages outside.

I really reccomend this popper, oh and there's just me and the wife at home in case you're wondering about the popper being too big for small families--the popcorn stores nicely and it doesn't last long because its so tender and crunchy you'll be snacking on it all day.

(More customer reviews)Well, I surely gave it a fair try:popped 3 batches of various sizes, closely following all directions, using fresh popping corn from two separate packages.Results:

* Noticeable cooked plastic odor and taste in the popped corn - yuck.
(... when I returned it to my local retailer, the clerk told me he had noticed the same problem in their sample...)

* You like your popcorn fluffly and light?All three batches were denser and heavier than standard popped corn.

* Far too many uncooked kernels.

* Poor build quality:the base had a loose part rattling inside that sounded like a broken piece.

*Seating the hotplate into the base takes some getting used to.At first I thought I had it seated properly and the rotor moved, but the plate refused to heat, requiring that I reseat it repeatedly and very precisely to get the cooking element to connect properly.

It's a shame.I had high hopes for this product (I trust and respect the Cuisinart name - I have one of their food processors).I liked that it had an anodized heating surface - believing that should make it very durable.Results were terrible though.

Presto 04830 PowerPop Microwave Multi-Popper Review

(More customer reviews)This gadget has really hooked us on popcorn as a snack. We had been getting wonderful microwave popcorn from Yoder Popcorn (on the Web), but it got expensive. Then I noticed that they said that the Presto popper could be used with any of their bulk popcorn -- at much lower cost. What amazed us was how much better their already outstanding popcorn tasted with the Presto! And the ability to make it with the oil of our choice (we like olive oil) or no oil at all is a great bonus. Entering "presto powercup concentrator" in Google turned up a number of sources (including Amazon) for this essential insert -- we ordered ten packs to save on shipping and are sure we will use them in a reasonable time.
The size is great for us -- just about as much as a standard microwave pack per popperful. I do not see it as very feasible for more than four or maybe six people at a time, however.
While the Powercups do add to the cost, it still is cheaper than the microwave packs. Using the Yoder popcorn as an example (since the same popcorn is available either in bulk or microwave packs) and assuming that one gets 3 pops per Powercup (half of what Presto says is feasible) the cost comes out about as follows:
Premium white or yellow popcorn, 3.5 oz = $0.13
Olive oil, 0.5 oz = 0.10
Powercup = 0.08
Amoritization of popper = 0.02
Total = $0.33
By contrast, a 3.5 oz microwave pouch of the same popcorn costs $0.65 in bulk.
Actual final costs will be greater for both due to shipping charges, of course, but these do not favor one over the other.
