The final ingredient on the box is sucralose, but after a serving of this, I'd have thought it was the first ingredient. The first sip is fine, then the sour/bitter aftertase sets in, and completely overwhelmes the tea and spices. If you're not averse to things like Splenda/aspartame/sucralose and all the other names for the chemicals that are fake sugar, then you probably won't object to this. I on the other hand, regret my purchase as a waste of $10. Practically undrinkable.

Nostalgia Electrics PCM-805 Hard Candy/Sugar Free Cotton Candy Maker Review

Nostalgia Electrics PCM-805 Hard Candy/Sugar Free Cotton Candy Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My cotton candy maker arrived 6 days ago and I've used it every day since.

I heated it up for about 8 minutes before adding the sugar/candy, and the floss appeared about a minute after that. Since there were a lot of kids lined up to test the results, the two plastic cones that come with it weren't nearly enough to go around so we used thin 12" long wooden dowel rods which you can get at a craft store for about 5 cents each.

Before you make your first batch, you may want to watch some clips on making cotton candy on youtube. There is a certain technique to it but once you get the hang of it it's very easy.

We had it running, on and off, for about an hour as we tried different flavors and candies. The motor kept going strong the whole time. Make sure it's on a stable surface because the kids will want to lean in as far as they can to watch it.

It works with both hard candy and the sugar cotton candy mixes like Flossine. We found that it doesn't work as well with the hard candy that's typically pretty sticky, like Jolly Ranchers. The manufacturer also recommends not using round hard candy, like sour balls.

Clean up is a cinch. The metal spinner part and the plastic bowl come off, then you just soak them in hot water for a few minutes and the sugar dissolves.

Definitely the most fun appliance I've ever owned!

Nopro 12 x 9 Stainless Steel Roasting and Broiler Pan Review

I bought this for my toaster oven, keeping my fingers crossed that it'll fit (which it did, perfectly! ). The top plate with holes is more or less a permanent fixture in my oven, as its easier to clean than oven racks, and I use the bottom pan as a baking dish. I like that it's stainless steel, which is supposed to be a safe metal to cook/bake in and yet easy to clean.

I would have given it 5 stars, had it not been for the somewhat sharp sides. Otherwise the quality seems to be good. Get it!

I have several tart recipes and wanted a nice dish to present the desserts in.I purchased this and am happy with the quality and its performance, however I think it is a bit overpriced.

Product Description:
Pillivuyt excels in making the classic French cooking tools and the tart pans are a fine example of this. With graceful fluted edges and a brilliant impermeable glaze, these are dishes you can bring to the table and present your creations directly to your guests or family. The walls of these dishes, as in all Pillivuyt items, are exceptionally even and not too thick, so the heat conduction is even and efficient. This creates an evenly cooked and browned crust that will slide easily out of the pan when you are ready to serve it.You can cut your tart in the pan without worrying about scratching the glaze and the dish will clean up without scrubbing or scraping.Pillivuyt porcelain is fired at 2500 degrees Fahrenheit, so you can safely put any dish under the broiler for that finishing touch and final browning. The 10-inch tart pan is slightly larger than the standard size and a good choice for quiches and other recipes of needing more volume.

All-Clad Stainless French Oven Review

All-Clad Stainless French Oven
Average Reviews:

Because I am an All-Clad fan, and I own and use more All-Clad pieces than I really can afford, I feel like a traitor as I begin to write this.I wish I could return-for-refund my copy of this very pricey All-Clad "French Oven" (not purchased from amazon.com).For my needs, my two Le Creuset oval ovens and one Le Creuset round "buffet casserole" do the (French / Dutch) "oven" thing better, cheaper, and more beautifully.Cast iron, although not as physically tough as stainless steel, really does hold the heat much better, plus it works with induction, just in case you have induction (I do not) and you need to use the "oven" on the stove-top; this All-Clad oven bottom is non-magnetic.Le Creuset uses cast iron for the cover as well as for the bottom, unlike this All-Clad piece, which has the plain stainless steel (non-clad) cover, which I think compromises the "oven" concept of all-encompassing uniform heat.My All-Clad oven's wire rack (a plus over Le Creuset, which has none) is totally flat, and it hugs the rounded contours so snugly that the little bent-wire legs do not even touch the bottom of the pan, so the rack is not totally stable.A bed of mirepoix or potatos or such vegetables would perform better than this rack unless you are going for enclosed dry roasting of poultry, which really needs a non-flat rack, one that can hold the bird in the desired position. This oven's bottom pan is too deep to double as a roasting pan unless you can find a V-rack that will properly fit this pan. Also without its cover, the pan likely could be used for baking lasagna, but I think that the top of the food would be too far below the top of the pan for proper browning. Now, it is just barely possible that I somehow am not getting the point of this All-Clad "French Oven".(I understand All-Clad's attractive "Dutch Oven" OK, but cast iron really is the more appropriate material for the task.)In any case, I am hoping that someone from All-Clad will read this, take pity on me, and wave their magic wand, absolving me of my treachery, and take back their piece so that I then can put that money into other All-Clad items that I (really, truly do) need.

Presto 04830 PowerPop Microwave Multi-Popper Review

Presto 04830 PowerPop Microwave Multi-Popper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This gadget has really hooked us on popcorn as a snack. We had been getting wonderful microwave popcorn from Yoder Popcorn (on the Web), but it got expensive. Then I noticed that they said that the Presto popper could be used with any of their bulk popcorn -- at much lower cost. What amazed us was how much better their already outstanding popcorn tasted with the Presto! And the ability to make it with the oil of our choice (we like olive oil) or no oil at all is a great bonus. Entering "presto powercup concentrator" in Google turned up a number of sources (including Amazon) for this essential insert -- we ordered ten packs to save on shipping and are sure we will use them in a reasonable time.
The size is great for us -- just about as much as a standard microwave pack per popperful. I do not see it as very feasible for more than four or maybe six people at a time, however.
While the Powercups do add to the cost, it still is cheaper than the microwave packs. Using the Yoder popcorn as an example (since the same popcorn is available either in bulk or microwave packs) and assuming that one gets 3 pops per Powercup (half of what Presto says is feasible) the cost comes out about as follows:
Premium white or yellow popcorn, 3.5 oz = $0.13
Olive oil, 0.5 oz = 0.10
Powercup = 0.08
Amoritization of popper = 0.02
Total = $0.33
By contrast, a 3.5 oz microwave pouch of the same popcorn costs $0.65 in bulk.
Actual final costs will be greater for both due to shipping charges, of course, but these do not favor one over the other.

I purchased this to replace five slow cookers (Yes, I really had five), a rice cooker, and a Nesco roaster. When it arrived, I ran a water test which worked perfectly. The cooker heats quickly and then cooks on pressure and beeps when done.If not turned off, it goes to a warm cycle to hold the dish until you are ready. The next dish I tried was rice on the rice cycle. It is set for white rice and I was cooking brown rice so I just repeated the cycle twice after the first cycle. The rice turned out perfectly in 18 minutes. The removable pan is easy to clean since it is Teflon.I then put in the ingredients for black beans and set the timer for 27 minutes on the high pressure cycle.I punched start and walked away. The beans were done, tender and delicious! It used to take me 12 hours to cook beans in the crock pot! There is a brown cycle which heats up fast and can be used for sauteing items. I made a Mexican chicken soup and sauteed the onions and celery, threw in cubed raw chicken breast and browned, then added the rest of the ingredients for the soup except for the avocado which I added after the soup was done and cooked it on high pressure for 8 minutes. It sure didn't take me long to cook lunch that day! There is also a low pressure cycle for vegetables which I haven't tried yet. I can see that I am going to get lots of use out of this cooker.I think it is wonderful!

Romertopf 4-Quart Clay Baker Review

Romertopf 4-Quart Clay Baker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Two, large turkey wings fit perfectly in the bottom of the 4-quart Romertopf ("113" stamped on the bottom). In the 3 years that I've had mine, turkey wings are the only thing I've cooked in it although a duck is slated to be cooked in it tonight. As with the wings, this is the right size for anyone wanting to cook a whole duck.

Turkey wings tend to get a bit dry if roasted in a traditional, covered, roasting pan. In a Romertopf, however, the meat is incredibly moist. All I do is season the wings, put them in the bottom of the soaked (in cold water, both top and bottom) Romertopf, stick it in a cold oven, turn the oven temperature to 425 degrees, then forget about it until the oven timer goes off 50 minutes later. Most times the wings are browned as desired. The few times they have not been, I've removed the top and returned the uncovered wings to the oven for an additional 10 minutes.

Although people writing reviews for some other size Romertopfs say they stick it in their dishwasher, mine came with instructions to only wash it by hand and never use soap. For removing grease, the use of baking soda is suggested. I have found the easiest way to clean a Romertopf is to first remove as much as possible with slightly warm water and a nylon brush, then soak it over night. In the morning the baked-on dripping are much easier to remove. After removing them I do a final cleaning with baking soda and warm water.

One thing people should know is that Romertopfs, no matter what size, can not be cleaned so they obtain a new, never used look. Being made of porous clay, the bottom and inner top get stained and spotted (from grease).

Presto 06006 Kitchen Kettle Electric Multi-Cooker and Fryer Review

Presto 06006 Kitchen Kettle Electric Multi-Cooker and Fryer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This unit is similar to the one I have (old style 06000), so I have included my review here as well.

I bought one at Walmart last year. I use it pretty often, but mostly for making popcorn. Turn temp to 350, put a couple-three tablespoons of peanut oil in the bottom, and then when the oil heats up throw in 1/3 to 1/2 cup of popcorn. Put the cover on and keep the pot moving while the corn pops. When the corn has just about stopped popping, turn the heat off and pour the popcorn into a bowl. Butter, salt and eat. YUM!

I've deep-fried scallops in it, steamed vegetables, cooked rice, made soup and even baked potatoes. The thing works great! I wasn't going to write a review until I saw Alton Brown talk some trash about it on Good Eats. I got pretty defensive about my humble Presto cooker! He was doing a silly episode about "man food" like corn dogs and thin, square hamburgers. Well, when Mr. Brown was explaining how to fry the corn dogs he said (while holding a Presto mutlti-cooker) that a pot with an heating element on the outside of the bottom wasn't a good idea because first the element had to heat the pot and then it had to heat up the oil. Too slow. After that he displayed three home-use rectangular fryers with immersion type heating elements. He said they were also better because they each had cooking baskets and break-away magnetic cords. He picked the one with the digital controls, while implying that this was somehow better than the manual rotary temp control.

I don't know if A. B. gets paid for product placement on his show, but I really thought he was being disingenuous regarding the Presto "pot." First of all, about the heating element on the bottom of the Presto cooker: During the frying demonstration, Mr. Brown had some text placed over the screen that said that if you didn't have a special electric fryer, that a pot on the stove-top would work fine. Isn't that interesting? What the heck is a pot on the stove, but just a heating element on the outside of a pot that heats up the pot and then the oil inside? That's exactly what he was criticizing the Presto kettle about. What gives? Secondly, the Presto cooker DOES TOO have a magnetic break-away electric cord to keep the unit from tipping when the cord is yanked by accident. Also, the Presto cooker DOES TOO come with a frying-steaming basket, which Brown implied it didn't have. Nya, nya, nya! See, I can be just as immature as Alton Brown!

I don't know if the rectangular fryers are really better, but I'm sure they cost a lot more. My Presto cooker was $26.85 at Walmart. I keep it in a lower cabinet - it doesn't take up much space there. I pull it out when I need it. It's inexpensive, easy to use, and simple. When we go to Maine in August, I'm allowed to take only one of my counter-top appliances. So, I just take the Presto cooker with me. Normally, I cook steel cut oats in a small bowl, sitting in water, in a slow cooker (a bain marie - sort of - found the idea here [link deleted]) I can do the same thing with the Presto cooker. And I have a pot with me on vacation that I can do so much more with.

One last thing. With my slow cooker I use a plug-in timer called a Rival Smart-Part. But it's not rated to control the wattage of the Presto multi-cooker. I found a heavy-duty programmable digital timer that I use to turn the Presto cooker off and on automatically. This device really allows me to use the Presto cooker like a slow cooker, without over-cooking stews and such when I am out of the house all day. The Presto multi-cooker is a terrific appliance! Buy one now, and don't believe everything you see on TV!

Flash Update! Here is another reason to buy a Presto multi-cooker: I'm making a beef stew with red wine tonight. What a mess browning the stew beef! I have a 3 quart Wagner cast-iron chicken fryer, and this is what I used to brown the beef chuck cubes. These days the meat hasn't been aged much, and so it is very difficult to brown properly. I managed to do it in batches, but the stove-top got pretty messy by the time I was done. I put the browned meat, vegetables, and garlic into the Presto cooker ( I made sure to deglaze the chicken fryer with wine and include all the tasty bits) and continued to cook the stew. And then I could proceed to clean up the stove-top while the beef stew simmered away in a different part of the kitchen. I am very pleased not to have to clean up all that oil splatter after dinner!

West Bend 82306X Stir Crazy 6-Quart Popcorn Popper Review

West Bend 82306X Stir Crazy 6-Quart Popcorn Popper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm on my second one of these, having lost one in a move many years ago.
I've had a number of popcorn poppers 'cause I'm a true fan, whether unadorned popcorn or 'fancied up'.When the hot air poppers came out about 20 years ago I bought a couple of them, but they always seem to make chewy popcorn that'll stick in the back of your throat.I've got a mint-condition Mirro aluminum electric popper from the sixties and it'll burn corn in the bottom before you can turn around.
West Bend used to make this same type popper but without the stirrer.I had that one also, and it still left a fair number of kernels at the bottom.
The stirring rod is what makes the difference with this popper. Not only will it pop more kernels in ANY brand of popcorn, but it will pop far more with the less expensive brands like Jolly Time. It's typical to get no more than a tablespoon or less of unpopped kernels. The popcorn turns out perfectly done, from the earliest to the last popped. If you look at the photo, the disc on the top is a removable cover; under there is an indention with multiple holes. You can take butter or margarine and spread it around when you set the machine up.Then, as the machine starts popping, the steam melts the butter and it goes on the corn!Or, if you prefer buttering later, just leave the lid on.When the corn is popped, you simply flip the appliance over and the large dome becomes the serving bowl.
The dome and the disc on top have been through my dishwasher dozens of times without any problem. If I hand-wash it, it always feels a little greasy. The bottom, heating part of the appliance is nonstick; you simply wipe it out with a soapy dishrag or paper towel.Couldn't be easier.
This appliance is light in weight and fits fine in one of my overhead cabinets. For only a small amount of oil, it'll make six quarts of the best popcorn you can find!Plus, its tolerance to less-expensive non-gourmet corns means you'll spend less money.Highly recommended!

Creates a Delicious, Golden, Juicy Chicken that is dripping with flavor and not fat! Also known as drunken chicken, beer can chicken in the over, beer-butt chicken, beer can chicken, and tipsy chicken; our Deep Dish Chicken Cookers use your favorite beers and wines to marinate a chicken from the inside out. You will be amazed at the robust flavor! Fill the base of the Deep Dish Chicken Cooker up with potatoes, carrots, celery, and other veggies; and you have an entire meal in ONE dish. Experiment with rice in the chicken cooker base too. Simply fill the Deep Dish Chicken Cooker's well with your favorite beer, wine or beverage, place bottom of chicken over the well, and the chicken will cook from the inside out - ensuring moist & juicy chicken every time! Rub your favorite spices or herbs on the chicken for added flavor. Try some Jamaican Jerk Sauce for an extra zing! Instead of beer or wine, experiment with other beverages such as orange juice, Dr. Pepper, apple juice, other sodas; the list just keeps going! CHEF'S NOTE: be sure to place Deep Dish Chicken Cooker, and all it's contents, in a COLD oven. Bring your meal and the temperature of the oven up together. This will ensure long lasting durability. Schlemmertopf Classic Glazed Clay Cooker, Small Review

Schlemmertopf Classic Glazed Clay Cooker, Small
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Schlemmertopf itself is great. The size we ordered is a small, good for cooking portions for two people, especially if you're on a health-conscious diet; otherwise you might want to order the medium one.

Cooking with this is a breeze, and it's very healthy - no need to use oil or cooking spray to get juicy meats. Just soak the lid in water for 10 minutes, place your meats/veggies inside, season to your liking, and let cook... done!

Our only complaint is that when this item arrived from Amazon, a corner piece of the lid was broken off (About a 2 inch piece I would say). It's not a deal breaker, though... we were tempted to send it back for a replacement, but decided it's not worth the time and effort. The Schlemmertopf still works just fine with the missing corner, no difference whatsoever.

The Schlemmertopf was recommended by my wife's mom, who lives in Europe and has been cooking with it for quite some time.

All in all, an A+++ product.
